Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF)
A Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) is used for removal of Particulate Matter (PM) in exhaust gas from a diesel engine.
Compared to gasoline engines, diesel engines have the advantages of higher thermal efficiency, lower fuel consumption and little CO2 emissions.
Therefore, especially in Europe, diesel passenger cars are more popular than in Japan, with reputation of "an eco-friendly prestige cars".
However, in Japan, diesel cars hold a minority position because PM emitted from the engines is harmful to humans.
In recent years, DPF, as a measure to eliminate the PM, has been developed and came to the attention of automobile manufacturers around the world.
TYK Corporation is producing ceramics filters of silicon carbide for DPFs.
Their wide application in many emission control fields is possible because of their superior heat resistance, corrosion resistance and filtration efficiency.
These advantages are due to the use of special SiC material, the tight pore distribution control.
